SOM
Family of Medium-Range Ammunition Launched on the Surface
The SOM missile is an air-to-surface medium-range cruise missile with an effective offensive capability against fixed/stationary surface and moving surface targets, enabling targets to be hit with great accuracy without entering the effective range of air defense systems.
The SOM-A and SOM-B1 missiles have been in the TAF inventory since 2011 and are field-proven weapon systems (TRL-9). Among the other SOM variants, SOM-B2, with its successive penetrating warhead, and SOM-C1/C2 variants, with the addition of anti-surface targeting and data link capabilities, are currently undergoing verification studies, while the SOM-J variant, which is designed to be compatible with the F-35, F-16 and Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), is currently under development/verification.
Activities for the development and integration of indigenous sub-components for SOM missiles, as well as the integration of SOM missiles on different platforms are also being carried out.
