SOM
Stand-Off Missile
SOM Missile is an air-to-surface Cruise Missile designed to be used against heavily defended stationary ground and moving maritime targets. SOM provides the capability of defeating targets with high accuracy while keeping the launching aircraft outside the effective range of hostile air defence systems.
The SOM-A and SOM-B1 missiles have been in the TAF inventory since 2011 and are field-proven weapon systems (TRL-9). Among the other SOM variants, SOM-B2, with its successive penetrating warhead, and SOM-C1/C2 variants, with the addition of anti-surface targeting and data link capabilities, are currently undergoing verification studies, while the SOM-J variant, which is designed to be compatible with the F-35, F-16 and Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), is currently under development/verification.
Development and integration of indigenous sub-components to SOM Missiles and integration of SOM Missiles onto various crewed and uncrewed platforms are underway.
