Wind Tunnel Test Request

To create a Wind Tunnel Test Request, please go to the relevant page and fill out the form.

Ankara Wind Tunnel (ART) is a closed-circuit, horizontal loop, atmospheric wind tunnel with a closed test chamber operating at low subsonic speeds. The test chamber is 3.05 m wide, 2.44 m high and 6.10 meters long. The tunnel loop is reinforced concrete and the test chamber is wooden. Speeds of over 80 m/s (288 km/h) can be reached inside the test chamber. In the tunnel, many tests with different characteristics can be carried out such as examining the aerodynamic properties of aircraft such as airplanes, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, ammunition, parachutes and land vehicles such as cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, determining the interaction of objects such as sirens, radars, antennas and lightning rods with air and examining their strength in a storm environment. In 2000, the Ankara Wind Tunnel, which has been actively operating since 1996, became a member of the Subsonic Aerodynamic Test Society (SATA), a group of important subsonic wind tunnels around the world.

In ART, the object itself or a scale model of the object to be tested is mounted in the test chamber, wind is applied at the desired speed, the model is brought to the desired angle and the aerodynamic forces acting on the model are measured with the help of external balance or internal balance systems, and flow imaging tests can be performed with various techniques to examine the flow. To date, ART has been actively used by Defense Industry companies TÜBİTAK SAGE, TAI, ROKETSAN and ASELSAN, as well as universities and civil sector companies.

Test Specimen Specifications and Delivery Conditions

Thanks to the high positioning accuracy model actuation system in ART, it is possible to measure aerodynamic force and moment quickly and precisely in the -20˚ to +50˚ angle of attack range and -30˚ to +30˚ sideslip angle range. In addition, turbulence measurement in the tunnel can be performed precisely by using the 3-axis hot wire probe in the CTA hot wire anemometer system.
